App Rx553 - Deactivation of demineralization reclaims block of K503 nuclear power plant
RAXORB3/5 , a granular (0.4—1.0 mm spheres) selective ion-exchanger, chemically composed of ferrocyanide of divalent metals fixed on inorganic carrier, was successfully used for the deactivation of the demineralization reclaim block at K503 nuclear power plant.

The solution of Na2SO4 was characterized by:

  • Concentration : 100 g/dm3
  • pH = 9.2
  • Activity on 137Cs : 870 Bq/dm3

The deactivation filter consisted in a bulk bed of RAXORB3/5 with a filtration flow of 20-30 times the volume of sorbent per hour.

The dynamic of deactivation, limited at 5,000 times the volume of the sorbent, shows that the radioactivity of the filtrate is always below the detection limit of 0.74 Bq/dm3.
